With so many thoughts racing through your mind on a daily basis, it is no surprise that staying focused is not always an easy task – it may even be difficult at times. However, gaining control of your mind is key to achieving your goals. Staying focused on the task at hand is essential to your success. Often times, our viewpoint on what needs to be completed is too broad. To succeed, our goals should be narrowed to the smallest assignment. If you want to build a wall, don’t get weighed down by the magnitude of the entire wall that you want to construct. Instead, dedicate yourself to focusing on laying that first brick as perfectly as possible. Once that step is complete, move on to the next brick and so on and so forth.
This mindset can be applied to your daily routine. Simply break up the day in segments to not feel overwhelmed. Start off your day by creating an ideal state of mind. This can be accomplished by doing affirmations in your bathroom mirror after you brushed your teeth. Tell yourself you are intelligent, creative, talented, strong and capable. Personally, I set-up reminders on my phone which appear first thing in the morning – motivational messages like “Make today count!” Afterwards, formulate a detailed plan for your day to keep you on track. Every meal, workout and activity that you want to accomplish should be outlined.
There are so many things in this life we can’t control. We can’t control the weather; can’t predict the stock market; we can’t alter our past…The one thing in your control is your attitude towards certain instances. Every day you must work to establish an ideal state of mind because despite what life throws at you, your attitude and reaction to life must be a priority. By living in the moment and controlling your attitude, you learn to master your feelings. Feelings are a powerful force that can either work for you or against you. Don’t let outside factors influence your feelings which is easier said than done.
So I won’t focus on the next twenty pounds that I will lose, even though that is the focal point which drives me. Instead, I will focus on that next single pound. Doing what I have to do today as perfectly as possible by waking up with purpose, creating that ideal state of mind, focusing on eating clean and pushing myself during my workouts. With all the uncertainties that the day may present, I will control what I can…my attitude.
