What is your definition of success? For many it’s becoming rich and acquiring material things. Maybe it’s finding happiness in this crazy world. Possibly it’s defining your purpose. Perhaps it’s determining the meaning of life. It is quite clear that everyone’s definition is different. Not defining success can lead to others defining success for you. Whatever your definition of success may be, the bottom line is that it should be YOURS.
Define success early. Before you set out to achieve your next goal, you must define what success looks like for yourself. How will you know if you were successful during that day, that year, that project or whatever you are tackling if you did not define what success would look like in the end? By visualizing what success looks like, you end up establishing a standard…your benchmark.
How will success look like for me? Well not only do I want weigh 225lbs, I also want my body composition to be lean and cut. Attaining a body fat percentage around 12% would be great. Fortunately I’m naturally big boned and have a large frame so maintaining my current muscle mass is not a priority for me. Furthermore, going 4-5 days a week with no sugar is a measurable lifestyle I would like to sustain.
Since individual’s definition of success varies, you should never compare your achievements with somebody else’s. Just like you shouldn’t be envious of someone else’s blessings as you do not know what that person has gone through prior to receiving it. So my definition of success is being the best I can be. I have envisioned what that might look like. And now I must put in the work to succeed!
